Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

my father, from Qatādah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq, who said: I told Abū Dharr that, had I met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would have asked him a question. He asked what I would have asked him. I replied that I would have asked whether he had seen his Lord. Abū Dharr said that he had indeed asked him, and he had replied, “I saw light.”’”

This chain of transmission that we have mentioned is through Hishām al-Dastawā’ī, from Qatādah. The first wording comes through Yazīd ibn Ibrāhīm al-Tustarī, from Qatādah. Some narrators give “light” in the nominative case.
