Eleventh: It may be said that interpreting “Then He comes to them in His form, which they recognize” as His bringing some created things into existence is invalid for the reasons already given concerning their interpretation of “Then Allah comes to them in a form” as meaning “with a form that is one of the angels.”
Twelfth: As already noted, when He first says, “I am your Lord,” they say, “We associate nothing with Allah,” or, “We seek refuge in Allah from you. Here we shall remain until our Lord comes to us. When our Lord comes, we will recognize Him.” He then says, “Is there a sign between you and Him by which you will recognize Him?” They say, “Yes.” Then “He uncovers a shin, and everyone who used to prostrate to Allah of his own accord will be permitted to prostrate”—and so on.
Thus, the sign by which they recognized Him is expressly stated. Yet they have interpreted this as meaning the manifestation of hardship on the Day of Resurrection. Their interpretation that the sign by which they recognize Him and consequently prostrate to Him is beneficence is therefore contradictory and incoherent: here they make recognition of Him depend upon beneficence, while there they make it depend upon hardship and punishment.
Thirteenth: The report states that this sign is the uncovering of His shin. This will be discussed in its proper place. That invalidates the interpretation, “When our Lord’s beneficence comes,” or, “Then He comes to them with what they recognize as beneficence.”
