are contrary to what these people claim about it. Likewise, in His words:
“Enter among My servants (29), and enter My Paradise (30).” [al-Fajr 29–30]
He commands it to enter among His servants and to enter Paradise. This contradicts their assertion that the soul is neither within the world nor outside it, and that it occupies no place—just as they claim concerning the Creator Most High.
Allah Most High says:
“Allah takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die during their sleep. He then keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others until an appointed term.” [al-Zumar 42]
He thus states that He takes the souls, meaning that He seizes them, takes hold of them, and takes them in full. He states that this taking occurs both at death and during sleep, and that, among the souls taken during sleep, some He keeps—those for which He decrees death during sleep—while others He releases. His keeping them, releasing them, and taking them all contradict their claim that the soul cannot possess attributes of this kind.
The twenty-fourth argument: Whoever likens the relation of the soul—which, in his view, is Adam—to the body to the relation of the Creator to the world is bound to regard the Creator
