Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

“Have you, then, heard it speak?”

He replied, “No.”

He asked, “Have you detected any sensation or tangible sign of it?”

He replied, “No.”

He said, “Likewise, Allah Most High has no face that can be seen, no voice that can be heard, and no scent that can be smelled. He is hidden from sight and is not in one place rather than another.”

He also found three ambiguous verses, as mentioned earlier. Thus, al-Jahm likened Allah to the spirit within a human being, in that neither resembles anything apprehended by the five senses, despite its governance of that body. This resembles the view of the Sabian philosophers whom Abū Hāmid followed
