Allah, blessed and exalted be He. He encountered some polytheists called the Sumaniyyah. They recognized al-Jahm and said to him, ‘We will debate you. If our argument prevails over you, you will enter our religion; and if our argument prevails over you, we will enter your religion.’

Among the things they said to al-Jahm was, ‘Do you not claim to have a god?’

Al-Jahm replied, ‘Yes.’

They asked him, ‘Have you seen your god?’

He replied, ‘No.’

They asked, ‘Have you heard His speech?’

He replied, ‘No.’

They asked, ‘Have you detected any scent from Him?’

He replied, ‘No.’

They asked, ‘Have you sensed Him?’

He replied, ‘No.’
