Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

For this reason, neither the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor the Companions, nor the Successors exalted the Lord through any such descriptions. Nothing of this kind is found in Allah’s Book, the Sunnah of His Messenger, or the accounts transmitted from the prophets, the early generations of this community, or its imams. Rather, the greatest instance reported of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) exalting and glorifying the Lord was when he recited from the pulpit:

“They have not given Allah His due measure. On the Day of Resurrection, the whole earth will be in His grasp, and the heavens will be rolled up in His right hand.”

[al-Zumar: 67]

This was narrated by Abū Hurayrah and ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar. The hadith is recorded in the two Sahīh collections, and the verse
