he recorded in Refutation of the Heretics and the Jahmiyyah concerning Their Doubts about Ambiguous Passages of the Quran and Their Misinterpretation of Them. Abū Bakr al-Khallāl mentioned this book in his Book of the Sunnah and quoted it verbatim; al-Qādī Abū Ya‘lā and others also mentioned it.
He said in it:
“An explanation of the misguided Jahmiyyah’s denial that Allah Most High is upon the Throne.
We said: ‘Why do you deny that? Allah, glorified be He, is upon the Throne. He, glorified be He, has said:
“The Most Merciful rose over the Throne (5)” [Tā Hā: 5].
And He said:
خرجه في
«الرد على الزنادقة والجهمية، فيما شكت فيه من متشابه القرآن وتأولت غير تأويله»
، وقد ذكر هذا الكتاب أبو بكر الخلال في كتاب
«السنة»
ونقله بألفاظه، وذكره القاضي أبو يعلى وغيرهما.
قال فيه:
«بيان ما أنكرت الجهمية الضلال، أن يكون الله تعالى على العرش.
قلنا:
لِم أنكرتم ذلك؟ إن الله سبحانه على العرش،
وقد قال سبحانه:
{الرَّحْمَنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَى
