and other scriptures while disliking its presence among them. If it is said that the one who dislikes it is not the one who wrote it, the reply is that it is found in all the copies preserved from earlier times, throughout every age and land since the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Moreover, it is known that the copies of the Torah and similar scriptures that exist today already existed in the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. If the attributes mentioned in them had been lies and fabrications, describing Allah in terms from which He must be declared free—such as having partners and children—then denunciations of them for this would have been found in the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or those of the Companions or the Successors, just as they denounced them for lesser things. Indeed, Allah censured them in the Quran for lesser things, for matters less grave than this. Had this been a fault, Allah’s censure of them would have been greater and His condemnation of them for it more severe.
