Abū al-‘Āliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, who reported that the polytheists said to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, “Tell us the lineage of your Lord.” So Allah Most High revealed:

“Say: He is Allah, the One (1), Allah, the Eternal Refuge (2). He neither begets nor is born (3), and there is none comparable to Him (4).” [al-Ikhlās 1–4]

He said, “He has no likeness or equal, and there is nothing like Him.” In his narration, Ibn Khidāsh said, “Thus, the Eternal Refuge is the One who neither begets nor is born, for nothing is born
