are acts beloved to the True One, Most High. Thus, when Allah Most High is loved, revered, and remembered by His servant, and the servant draws near to Him, the servant is loved, honored, and remembered by the Lord, who in turn draws near to him.
This being so, it is well known that a servant draws especially near to his Lord when he humbles himself before Him. As the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is while prostrating.”
In this state, his Lord is present in his heart, held in the utmost reverence and honor, and he has drawn as near to his Lord as he can. His Lord, in turn, draws near to him, honors him, and treats him generously.
Whoever’s heart is broken before Allah is humble and submissive to Him, whether he has witnessed such greatness in the True One that his heart is broken before Him, or Allah’s enemies have harmed him and broken his heart because of his worship of Allah and obedience to Him. The former is like one engaged in prayer, and the latter like one engaged in jihad. Such a person draws as near as possible to Allah Most High, and Allah likewise draws near to him. Thus, Allah is present with him in his heart. This has three degrees.
