David looks upon his sin, he turns and flees. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, calls to him, ‘O David, draw near to Me.’ He keeps bringing him nearer until he touches part of Him.”

Wakī‘ also narrated it from Sufyān, from Mansūr, and from Mujāhid, from ‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr. Regarding the verse, “And indeed, he has nearness to Us” [Sād 25], he said: “He mentioned drawing near until he touches part of Him.”

He said that something more extreme than this had been reported from Mujāhid, so they narrated from him
