and Wakīʿ: ‘Allah brings His servant near on the Day of Resurrection, saying, “Come closer, come closer,” until He places His kanaf over him. He then says, “Do you remember such-and-such? Do you remember such-and-such?”’”

Then Ibn Hāmid said: “Section: Among the matters that must be believed and affirmed are the reports concerning His Prophet’s contact with and nearness to the Truth—glory be to Him—peace and blessings be upon His Prophet. Our companions relied in this regard on Abū ʿAbd Allāh’s answer concerning the Praised Station. Abū Bakr ibn Sadaqah said: ‘The hadith was mentioned in Abū ʿAbd Allāh’s presence, and he said, “I missed hearing it from Ibn Fudayl,” and began expressing his regret.’
