In reply, it may be said: This argument and the response to it are recorded in the preserved accounts of Ahmad’s debate with the Jahmiyyah, including the Mu'tazilah and others, when he was imprisoned and put to the test. They are also mentioned in what he compiled in refutation of the Jahmiyyah. In that work, as al-Khallāl also reported from him in The Book of the Sunnah, he said:
