Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

“So-and-so has been attacked” is said when an enemy looms over him, and “You are under attack, so-and-so,” to warn him of an enemy bearing down on him. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says in al-Nahl:

“So Allah came upon their building from the foundations” [al-Nahl 26].

That is, He demolished their building and uprooted it from its foundations and base, bringing it down upon them until He destroyed them. What need, then, is there for figurative interpretation?
