Najīh, from Mujāhid. And He said concerning the mother of the Messiah:
“O Mary, Allah gives you glad tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, honoured in this world and the Hereafter, and among those brought near.” (45) [Āl ‘Imrān 45]
And He said concerning the angels:
“The Messiah would never disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels brought near. Whoever disdains to worship Him and is arrogant—He will gather them all to Himself.” (172) [al-Nisā’ 172]
This is firmly rooted in human nature, even among the polytheists who worship idols. Allah Most High said of them:
“And those who take protectors besides Him say, ‘We worship them only so that they may bring us nearer to Allah.’” [al-Zumar 3]
Allah did not condemn the polytheists for seeking to draw near to Allah Most High. Rather, He condemned them only for taking protectors besides Him, seeking to draw near
