and his destination is darkness—the Fire.
The sixth point: Even if it were assumed that the apparent meaning of this verse is that He is the light of the sun and moon and the light of visible fire, He—glorified and exalted be He—has made clear in more than one place that He is the Creator of all this. Allah Most High says:
“Among His signs are the night and the day, the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or the moon, but prostrate to Allah, who created them, if it is He whom you worship.” (37) [Fussilat 37]
He also says:
“It is He who made the sun a radiance and the moon a light, and determined phases for it.” [Yūnus 5]
And He says:
“He has subjected the sun and the moon to you, both constant in their courses, and has subjected the night and the day to you.” (33) [Ibrāhīm 33]
And He says:
“He covers the day with the night, which pursues it swiftly, and the sun, the moon, and the stars are subject to His command.” [al-A'rāf 54]
When the meaning of one Quranic verse is explained by another, this does not detract from the Quran’s being guidance, a clear exposition, and a message to mankind. The same would not be true if its apparent meaning were misguidance and that were left unexplained.
