Allah:
“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.”
He explained that Allah began by mentioning His own light, then mentioned the believer’s light, saying, “The example of His light,” meaning the example of the believer’s light. He said that Ubayy ibn Ka‘b used to recite “The example of His light” in this way: “The example of the believer’s light.” He explained that this refers to a servant in whose breast faith and the Quran have been placed.
He related: “I asked, ‘Like a niche?’ He replied, ‘The niche is his breast.’” “Within which is a lamp”: he explained that the lamp is the Quran and the faith placed in his breast.
“The lamp is within a glass vessel”: he explained that the glass vessel is his heart. “The glass vessel is as though it were a brilliant star”: his heart, with the Quran and faith shining within it, is like a brilliant star—that is, radiant.
“Lit from a blessed tree”: he explained that the blessed tree is sincere devotion to Allah alone and worship of Him, who has no partner.
“Neither of the east nor of the west”: he said that his likeness is that of a tree surrounded by other trees, green and luxuriant, which the sun does not reach under any circumstances
