or apply any label of praise or blame to anyone without authority from Allah, separate what Allah has joined, join what Allah has separated, sever what Allah has commanded to be joined, or break Allah’s covenant after it has been solemnly affirmed. Allah Most High says:
“Or do they have partners who have ordained for them a religion that Allah has not authorized?”
[al-Shūrā 21]
He also says:
“They are nothing but names you and your forefathers have devised, for which Allah has sent down no authority.”
[al-Najm 23]
He also says:
“Alif Lām Mīm Sād. (1) This is a Book revealed to you—so let there be no distress in your heart because of it—that you may warn by it, and as a reminder to the believers. (2) Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord, and do not follow any protectors besides Him. How little you take heed! (3)”
[al-A‘rāf 1-3]
He also says:
“And this is My straight path, so follow it. Do not follow other paths, for they will lead you away from His path. This is what He has enjoined upon you.”
[al-An‘ām 153]
He also says:
“O you who believe, fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims. (102) Hold firmly, all together, to the rope of Allah and do not be divided, and remember Allah’s favour upon you.”
[Āl ‘Imrān 102-103]
He also says:
“Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects—you have nothing to do with them.”
[al-An‘ām 159]
He also says:
“And indeed, those who differ concerning the Scripture are in deep discord. (176)”
[al-Baqarah 176]
In His Book, Allah, glorified and exalted be He, has praised the believers, the just, the truthful, the learned, those who pray, those who give charity, those who fast, the righteous, and others like them. He has condemned in His Book the disbelievers, the hypocrites, the wicked, the liars, those who distort words from their proper places, those who deviate concerning Allah’s names and signs, the polytheists, those who equate others with Him, those who set up rivals to Him, and others like them.
