Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

Ibn ‘Abbās or ‘Ikrimah said to someone who asked him about the words of the Most High, “No vision can encompass Him”: “Do you not see the sky?” He replied, “Yes.” He asked, “Do you see all of it?” He replied, “No.” He then said, “Allah is greater.”

Seventh: It may be said that most rational people dispute your claim to know that divisibility is excluded in the sense you assert. Even those who affirm this have disagreed over the methods of establishing it and have not agreed upon a single method. Rather, each has refuted the other’s method, while their opponents have refuted their methods. There is no disagreement that these methods involve subtle and obscure theoretical reasoning. Knowledge of separateness and its necessary implications, however, is self-evident and innate. If, then, you deny by this method what you claim to be divisibility, and deny its necessary implications
