‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Hātim said: “I asked my father and Abū Zur‘ah about the position of Ahl al-Sunnah on the fundamentals of religion, what they had found the scholars throughout the lands adhering to, and their own beliefs concerning these matters. They replied: ‘We found the scholars throughout the lands—in the Hijaz, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, and Yemen—holding that Allah is above His Throne, distinct from His creation, as He has described Himself, without specifying how. His knowledge encompasses all things.’”
