he was born upon the natural disposition of Islam, with his parents professing Islam, or his father alone—even if his mother is not Muslim—provided that he cried aloud at birth. ‘Every child is born upon the natural disposition. Then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Zoroastrian, just as an animal is born whole: do you find any among them mutilated?’
