Both versions were narrated by Ahmad, Muslim, and al-Nasā’ī; the second was also narrated by Abū Dāwūd.

‘Abd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr reported: “When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sat during prayer, he placed his left foot beneath his right thigh and shin, laid his right foot flat, placed his left hand on his left knee and his right hand on his right thigh, and pointed with his finger.” Some of the narrators gestured with the index finger.
