Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

in his dispute with the unbeliever, when he said:

“‘My Lord is He who gives life and causes death.’ He replied, ‘I give life and cause death.’” [al-Baqarah: 258], to the end of the verse.

For he could simply have said to him: “You are a body, whereas Allah is not a body, because every body is brought into existence,” as the Asharīs say. Likewise, Moses, peace be upon him, could have contented himself with this when disputing with Pharaoh over his claim to divinity. Similarly, concerning the Dajjāl, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, could have contented himself, in guiding the believers concerning all his claims to lordship, with pointing out that he is a body whereas Allah is not a body.

Instead, he said, peace be upon him:

“Indeed, [your Lord] is not one-eyed.”

He thus contented himself
