using the Quran, and worldly prosperity that will be your ruin; so beware of what it may do to you.”
This report is well known through Kathīr ibn ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Amr ibn ‘Awf al-Muzanī, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: “I fear three kinds of conduct for my community after me.” He was asked, “What are they, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “A scholar’s lapse, an unjust judgment, and desires being followed.” It was also narrated from Hābir.
The report concerning leaders and those who lead others astray is reliably transmitted, and its basis is found in the Sahīh. Thawbān narrated that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “My greatest fear for my community after me is leaders who lead them astray.”
