Shaykh Nasr al-Maqdisī mentioned this in his book al-Hujjah ‘alā Tārik al-Mahajjah (The Proof against Whoever Abandons the Clear Path). He also said in this book:
“If someone says, ‘You have mentioned what Muslims must do: follow the Book of Allah Most High and the Sunnah of His Messenger, follow the consensus of the imams and scholars, and adhere to the way of the people of the Sunnah and the Community. So explain their positions, the beliefs upon which they agreed, and what their consensus obliges us to adopt.’
“The answer is: What I found the scholars adhering to—those whom I met and learned from, and others whose views reached me…”
He then outlined the beliefs of the people of the Sunnah, including:
“And that Allah is established upon His Throne, distinct from His creation, as He says in His Book: ‘He encompasses all things in knowledge (12)’ [Surah al-Talāq: 12], and ‘He has enumerated all things in number (28)’ [Surah al-Jinn: 28]
