the Throne, is established (5)’ [Surah Tā Hā: 5].”
‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Hātim said in al-I‘tiqād (The Creed), his well-known work on the Sunnah:
“I asked my father and Abū Zur‘ah about the positions of the people of the Sunnah concerning the fundamentals of religion, the views they had found the scholars holding throughout all the regions and what they themselves believed concerning these matters. They replied: ‘We found the scholars throughout all the regions—the Hijaz, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, and Yemen—holding the following positions: Faith consists of speech and action; it increases and decreases. The Quran is the speech of Allah, uncreated in every respect.’”
Further on, he said:
“And that Allah is upon His Throne, distinct from His creation, as He has described Himself in His Book and through His Messenger, without specifying how. His knowledge encompasses all things.”
