bodies and dimensions without end are posited, it does not come to an end before that point. Likewise, if bodies or dimensions without end are posited, no part of them is exhausted, nor is any cutoff point posited within them, without their existing beyond it. Similarly, whenever something is mentally conceived as reaching a limit or cutoff point, something further is conceived beyond it. Any infinity of causes or other things mentally posited in order to demonstrate its invalidity also falls into this category.
The point is that whatever is described as infinite—whether in reality, as an impossible magnitude, or as a supposition that is not impossible or whose impossibility is unknown—shares this feature.
As for describing something as infinite in the sense that it has no reality capable of either finitude or infinitude, describing it thus is like describing a nonexistent thing as infinite because it can have no end, limit, or extremity, nor can these be ascribed to it. Its essence does not admit of being described as finite or otherwise, just as it does not admit of being described as possessing life or lacking it, possessing knowledge or lacking it, or possessing power or lacking it.
