thing would occupy one direction rather than another. The spatial locus would therefore itself have another spatial locus, entailing an infinite regress. If it were impossible to point physically to it—that is, to the spatial locus in which the Creator is situated—then it must also be impossible to point physically to the Creator. For we know self-evidently that anything whose direction cannot be pointed to physically cannot itself be pointed to physically.”
He likewise said this in al-Ta’sīs when presenting this argument.
The second response is to say: We do not concede that everything called a spatial locus or a direction is a positive reality. Rather, it may be said that some things called directions and spatial loci are existent—namely, existent places, such as the interior of the world. For the sun, the moon, the celestial spheres, the earth, stones, trees, and similar things all occupy existent spatial loci and have existent directions
