So we asked, ‘Is the One who governs the affairs of this creation unknown, not known by any attribute?’ They replied, ‘Yes.’ We said, ‘The Muslims now know that you affirm nothing’—or he said, ‘offer nothing’—‘and that you merely ward off censure through what you outwardly profess.’

Then we asked them, ‘Is this One who governs all affairs the One who spoke to Moses?’ They replied, ‘He has not spoken and does not speak, because speech is possible only through a bodily organ, and Allah has no bodily organs.’

When an ignorant person hears their words, he thinks that they are among those who revere Allah most deeply, unaware that their position ultimately amounts to nothing but misguidance and disbelief.
