Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

several lines of argument.

The first proof: He must be either divisible or indivisible. If He were divisible, He would be composite, which has already been refuted. If He were indivisible, He would be as small and insignificant as an indivisible particle, which all rational people agree is untenable.

Moreover, those who deny the existence of indivisible atoms maintain that anything that can be indicated as being here or there must have one side distinguishable from the other, which necessarily makes it divisible. Thus, the assertion that He can be indicated by the senses leads to these two untenable conclusions, and must therefore itself be false.

If it is asked: Why may it not be said that He, exalted is He, is One, free of combination and composition, and yet is immense?
