Sulaymān al-Taymī say: ‘If I were asked, “Where is Allah, blessed and exalted is He?” I would say, “In heaven.” If he then asked, “Where was His Throne before heaven existed?” I would say, “Upon the water.” If he then asked, “Where was His Throne before the water existed?” I would say, “I do not know.”’”

It was also reported from Yazīd ibn Hārūn that he mentioned Abū Bakr al-Asamm and al-Marīsī and said: “By Allah, they are both heretics who disbelieve in the Most Merciful, and whose blood may lawfully be shed.”
