Allah is knowing, and that when they call Him All-Hearing and All-Seeing, they mean nothing other than that He is knowing. This is also the position of the Christians.
The Jahmiyyah said that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has no knowledge, power, hearing, or sight. Their sole aim was to nullify monotheism and deny the truth. They called Him All-Hearing and All-Seeing in words alone, without giving those words any meaning. Had they not feared the sword, they would have openly declared that Allah neither hears nor sees nor knows. But fear of the sword prevented them from displaying their disbelief and exposing their heresy. This is the position of the ignorant Muʿtazilah.
He said: One of their shaykhs, whom they regarded as a leading authority, claimed that Allah’s knowledge is He Himself—glorified is He—and that Allah is knowledge.
