with Abū al-Hasan al-Ash'arī in denying the Throne and negating Allah’s rising over it. This is not the first falsehood they have claimed or lie they have uttered. I have read in his book entitled al-Ibāna 'an Usūl al-Diyāna proofs affirming Allah’s rising over the Throne, among those [I] have mentioned. Among other things, he said:
‘Among the supplications of all Muslims, when they appeal to Allah concerning a calamity that has befallen them, are the words they all say: “O You who dwell upon the Throne!”’
He then said:
‘Among the oaths they all swear are the words: “No, by Him who has veiled Himself behind seven heavens!”’”
