For they dispute both premises. On behalf of the first group, it may be said: We do not concede that whoever bears the Throne must also bear whoever is above it. Thus, the first premise is rejected. Whoever bears a roof need not bear what is above it unless what is above it rests upon it. Otherwise, the air, birds, and other things above the roof are not borne by whatever bears the roof. Likewise, the heavens are above the earth, yet the earth does not bear the heavens. Above each heaven is another heaven, yet the lower does not bear the upper. Since, even among created things, something need not bear what is above it—it may or may not do so—it does not follow that the Throne bears the Lord Most High without evidence establishing this. If the Throne does not bear Him, then, a fortiori, the bearers of the Throne do not bear whoever is above it.

The second response is that the other group rejects the second premise. They say: We do not concede that, if the Throne and its bearers bear Allah, it necessarily follows that Allah needs them. For Allah is the One who creates them and creates their powers and actions. Thus, they bear Him only through His power and assistance, just as they do nothing
