, leaflets and a heart? Yet its name denotes a single thing, and it is called a date palm with all its attributes. Likewise Allah—to whom belongs the highest description—is one God with all His attributes. We do not say that there was ever a time when He had no power, until He created His power, for one who has no power is powerless. Nor do we say that there was ever a time when He did not know, until He created knowledge for Himself and thus came to know, for one who does not know is ignorant. Rather, we say that Allah has always been knowing, powerful and sovereign, without assigning any “when” or “how.”’
