Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

do they say?” He replied, “Whoever says, ‘His sight is like my sight, and His hand is like my hand’—Hanbal added elsewhere, ‘and His foot is like my foot’—has likened Allah Most High to His creation. This sets limits upon Him. This is evil speech and entails limitation. I do not like discussing this.

“‘Abd Allāh said, ‘Keep the Quran free of additions.’ The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘He places His foot.’ We believe in this without setting limits upon Him, and we do not reject what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said. Rather, we believe in it. Allah Most High said:

‘Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it.’ [al-Hashr 7]

Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has thus commanded us to accept what he brought and to refrain from what he forbade.
