or is killed dies or is killed at his appointed time; that provision comes from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, who provides it to His servants, whether lawful or unlawful; and that Satan whispers to man, fills him with doubts, and drives him to madness, contrary to the position of the Muʿtazilah and the Jahmiyyah. As Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:

“Those who consume usury will not rise except as one driven to madness by Satan’s touch.”
[al-Baqarah: 275]

And as He says:

“From the evil of the retreating whisperer (4), who whispers into the hearts of mankind (5), [from among jinn and mankind (6)].”
[al-Nās: 4–6]

We affirm that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, may single out the righteous for signs that He manifests through them. Our position concerning the children of the polytheists is: “Allah will kindle a fire for them in the Hereafter, then say to them, ‘Plunge into it,’” as related in the report. We hold as a matter of faith in Allah that He knows what His servants will do and what they are
