‘Ubayd Allāh ibn Hanbal, who said: ‘My father, Hanbal ibn Ishāq, told me: “My uncle said: ‘We believe that Allah Most High is upon the Throne however He wills and as He wills, without any limit or description that a describer could attain or by which anyone could delimit Him. Allah’s attributes belong to Him and are from Him, and He is as He has described Himself. Sight cannot encompass Him within any limit or boundary, whereas He encompasses all sight. He knows the unseen and the seen; He is the Knower of all unseen things. No describer’s description can encompass Him, and He is as He has described Himself. Nothing pertaining to Allah Most High is bounded, and no one can fully comprehend His power. He has mastery over all things through His knowledge, power, and sovereignty.
“There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.” {11} [al-Shūrā 11]
Allah Most High existed before anything existed. Allah Most High is the First and the Last, and no one can reach the limit of His attributes. We submit to Allah’s command and are content with His decree. We ask Allah for success and soundness, for He has power over all things.’”’”
