the Throne.
He said: The people of the Sunnah and the adherents of hadith said: He is not a body and does not resemble anything. He is upon the Throne, as He said:
“The Most Merciful rose over the Throne.” {5} [Tā Hā 5]
We do not presume to speak ahead of Allah Most High; rather, we say that He rose over it, without specifying how. He has a face, as He said:
“And there will remain the face of your Lord, Possessor of Majesty and Honor.” {27} [al-Rahmān 27]
He has two hands, as He said:
“I created with My two hands.” [Sād 75]
He has two eyes, as He said:
“It sailed under Our eyes.” [al-Qamar 14]
He will come on the Day of Resurrection, as will His angels, as He Most High said:
“And your Lord comes, and the angels, rank upon rank.” {22} [al-Fajr 22]
He descends to the lowest heaven, as related in the hadith. They said nothing except what they found in the Book or what was transmitted from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
The Mu‘tazilah said that Allah rose over His Throne in the sense that He gained mastery over it. Some people said that rising over means sitting and being firmly settled.
