“Leave Me with the one I created alone, {11} and granted abundant wealth, {12} and sons by his side, {13}” up to His words, Most High: “He thought and calculated. {18} So may he perish! How he calculated! {19}” [al-Muddaththir 11–19]
He thus employed the logicians’ method of reasoning: thought, by which the middle term is sought, followed by calculation—that is, the syllogism, in which one proceeds from the middle term to the conclusion sought. He denied that the Quran was the speech of Allah Most High and declared it to be human speech. This is, in fact, the position of these philosophizers, as we have explained elsewhere.
Thus, directing the Muslim community to accept the counsel of people like these, without mentioning what Allah Most High has enjoined upon His servants or what His messengers have enjoined—and when that counsel entails replacing the natural disposition bestowed by Allah Most High with another disposition—is among the gravest alterations of that natural disposition in matters of knowledge and conduct. This amounts to changing Allah’s religion.
