28 – With his chain of transmission from Qatādah, who said: Muʿāwiyah met Ibn ʿAbbās and said to him, “O Ibn ʿAbbās, seek reward with Allah for al-Ḥasan’s death; may Allah neither grieve you nor cause you distress.” Ibn ʿAbbās replied, “So long as Allah preserves the Commander of the Faithful, I shall feel neither grief nor sorrow.” For that remark Muʿāwiyah granted him one million silver dirhams, along with merchandise and other goods, and said, “Take it and distribute it among your family.”
