23 – Through his chain of transmission he relates from Ibn Sīrīn, who said: A man—tall and gaunt, like a spit scorched by fire—stood up before Muʿāwiyah and said, “Muʿāwiyah, by Allah, you will keep to the straight path or we will straighten you.” Muʿāwiyah asked, “With what?” He replied, “With killing.” Muʿāwiyah said, “Then we shall keep straight, Bedouin.”
