14 – With his chain of transmission, he related: A man once spoke to Muʿāwiyah in such harsh terms that his household grew angry. They said to him, “If only you would punish him, making him a warning to others!” He replied, “I would be ashamed if my patience proved too small to absorb the offence of any one of my subjects.”
