Allah had exonerated them of, even though she was the foremost woman of truth, chosen above the women of all worlds.
Thus, the disparagement of the wicked and sinful does not harm a righteous person.
This also offers consolation to ‘Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers, if the surah was revealed after the incident of the slander; if it was revealed before it, it prepares her to face what the liars would say about her.
Likewise, the examples of the wives of Noah and Lot contain a warning to her and Hafsah against what they deliberately did to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
These examples thus contain warnings and admonitions for them, encouragement to obedience and belief in Allah’s oneness, and consolation and reassurance for those among them who were harmed and falsely accused.
The profound meanings of revelation go beyond this and are far greater, especially those contained in its parables, which none but those endowed with knowledge understand.
