Surah al-Munāfiqūn
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
[Surah al-Munāfiqūn (63): verse 9]
“O you who believe, let neither your wealth nor your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does so—it is they who are the losers.” (9)
The point is that continual remembrance sustains love. Since Allah, glorified be He, is most deserving of perfect love, servitude, veneration and reverence, remembering Him frequently is among the most beneficial things for a servant. His true enemy is whoever turns him away from remembering his Lord and worshipping Him.
For this reason, Allah, glorified be He, commands frequent remembrance of Him in the Quran and makes it a means of attaining success. The Exalted says:
62: 10 “Remember Allah often so that you may succeed.”
And He says:
33: 41 “O you who believe, remember Allah with much remembrance.”
And He says:
33: 35 “And the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so.”
And He says:
63: 9 “O you who believe, let neither your wealth nor your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does so—it is they who are the losers.”
And He says:
2: 152 “So remember Me; I will remember you.”
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The mufarridūn have gone ahead.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, who are the mufarridūn?” He replied, “Those who remember Allah often.”
