“Time struck the women of the house of Harb
With a decree that left them lost in sorrow.”
Ibn al-Anbārī said: “A sāmid may be someone engaged in diversion, someone inattentive, someone arrogant, or someone standing.”
Explaining the verse, Ibn ‘Abbās said: “While you are arrogant.”
Al-Dahhāk said: “Exultant and insolent.”
Mujāhid said: “Angry and scowling.” Someone else said: “Distracted, heedless, and turning away.” Singing encompasses all of these and gives rise to them.
