Surah Sād
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
[Surah Sād (38): verse 50]
“Gardens of perpetual residence, whose gates will be open to them.” (50)
Reflect on His words: what a remarkable meaning they contain! When they enter Paradise, its gates will not be closed upon them; rather, they will remain open as they are. As for the Fire, once its inhabitants enter it, its gates will be closed upon them. As Allah Most High says: 104: 8 “Indeed, it will be closed down upon them”—that is, sealed and shut. Hence a door is called a wasīd. It is sealed shut with extended pillars, which hold the doors fast from behind, like a great stone placed behind a door.
Muqātil said: “This means that its gates are closed upon them. No gate will be opened, no anguish will escape from it, and no relief will enter it, for all eternity.”
Moreover, the gates being opened for them indicates their freedom to move about, to come and go, and to settle wherever they wish in Paradise, as well as the angels’ coming to them at all times bearing gifts
