Surah al-Sāffāt
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
[Surah al-Sāffāt (37): verse 78]
“And We left for him among later generations” (78)
The words of Allah Most High:
The Most High said of Noah:
37:78–80 “And We left for him among later generations: ‘Peace be upon Noah among all peoples.’ Indeed, thus do We reward those who do good.”
He said of Abraham, His close friend:
37:108, 109 “And We left for him among later generations: ‘Peace be upon Abraham.’”
He said concerning Moses and Aaron:
37:119, 120 “And We left for them both among later generations: ‘Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.’”
And He said:
37:130 “Peace be upon Ilyāsīn.”
Thus, what He—glorified be He—left for His messengers among later generations is the salutation of peace upon them just mentioned.
A number of commentators, including Mujtahid and others, have explained “And We left for him among later generations” as good praise and an honorable reputation for all the prophets. This is also the view of Qatādah. These should not be presented as two distinct views held by the commentators, as is done by those who pay no attention
