Only intercession remained, so He denied it to their gods and declared that no one intercedes with Him except by His permission. If He does not grant the intercessor permission, the latter will not venture to intercede before Him as one may before created beings. For a created being with whom someone intercedes needs the intercessor and his assistance, and therefore accepts his intercession even without having given him permission to intercede.

But He upon whom all others are inherently dependent is inherently free of all need of them. How, then, could anyone intercede with Him without His permission?
