Surah al-Anbiyā’ (The Prophets)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
[Surah al-Anbiyā’ (21): Verse 83]
“And remember Job, when he called upon his Lord, ‘Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.’” (83)
In this supplication, he combined true affirmation of Allah’s oneness, an expression of his utter poverty and need before his Lord, the sweetness of love experienced in humbly entreating Him, and acknowledgment of His attribute of mercy and that He is the Most Merciful of the merciful. He also appealed to Him through His attributes—glory be to Him—and through his own desperate need and poverty. Whenever an afflicted person attains this state, his affliction is lifted. Experience has shown that whoever recites this supplication seven times, especially with this understanding, Allah relieves his affliction.
[Surah al-Anbiyā’ (21): Verse 107]
“We have not sent you except as a mercy to all the worlds.” (107)
The more correct of the two interpretations of this verse is that it retains its full general scope. On this understanding, there are two ways of explaining it.
